Why SMILE House matters.
In March 2026, South Lanarkshire Council formally approved the Community Asset Transfer of Canderavon to SMILE Children's Charity. This decision represents far more than a transfer of property, it is the foundation of a transformational new chapter for families across Lanarkshire.
Canderavon will be developed into a dedicated, inclusive space designed to support children and families who need it most. Our plans include:
- A respite house for children with disabilities and serious illness
- A sensory play and wellbeing centre
- A welcoming community hub for families and carers
For many of the families we support, daily life can be physically and emotionally demanding. This development will provide vital support, safe spaces, and opportunities for rest, connection, and care.

Our Mission
Rooted in lived experience.
SMILE Children's Charity was founded in memory of Justin. With their daughter Charlotte living with complex needs, Wendy and Stephen understand first-hand the challenges families face and the importance of accessible, compassionate support. This project reflects both that experience and a determination to make a difference for others.
